OnePlus X vs LeTV Le 1s: Battle of the budget flagships

This week we have seen the launch of 2 phones that redefine what how much a premium phone should cost. So of the Wood Back Cover Oneplus 2 and the LeTV 1s which phone is right for you? Which are you going to buy?

Today OnePlus launched the OnePlus X, and earlier in the week LeTV announced their new phone named the LeTV 1S. Readers have already been comparing these phones in the comments, and that got us wondering, "Which phone would I buy?”

OnePlus X vs LeTV Le 1s

The following details are based on the specifications and what we learned about each brand from their previous phones. You can learn more about OnePlus in our OnePlus 2 review here, and OnePlus 1 review. To give you an idea of what LeTV are capable of here is our LeTV Le1 review and LeTV Max review.

LeTV Le 1s

This week started with the launch of the LeTV Le1s so that’s exactly where we are going to start. To start with the LeTV has a larger 5.5-inch display than the OnePlus X with the same FHD 1920 x 1080 resolution. The screen also has slight black borders around it making the overall dimensions even larger than the 5-inch X.

RAM for both Oneplus Accessories is 3GB but there is 32GB internal storage on the LeTV as standard but no space for a micro SD card. The gold body of the latest LeTV houses a 3000mAh battery and is charged via a Type C usb plug.

LeTV have gone down the Mediatek route for the Le1s, the SOC in place is a Meidatek Helio X10 aka MT6795T octacore model. We’ve seen this chip in the Redmi 2, LeTV Le1 and Meizu MX5 and it has proven to be an amazing chipset.

The Le1S also has a 13 mega-pixel F2.0 rear camera with Phase detection auto focus, while a front camera of 5 mega-pixels is on selfie duty.

Finally there is a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the LeTV which is missing from the OnePlus X. For some this might be a decision maker, but if not there are a few other details to take in to consideration. Let’s now take a look at the OnePlus X.

OnePlus X

First of all the OnePlus X is a 5-inch phone with the same resolution 1920 x 1080 screen. With a smaller screen that means the OPX has a higher pixel density, but in reality the use of an AMOLED display is going to make more of an impact on the X. With an AMOLED display we can expect bright colours and dark blacks, which in turn can be used to improve battery life.

Speaking of battery life, this is one area the OnePlus X might lose out to the LeTV. The X has a capacity of only 2525mAh, but then again it only has to power a 5-inch screen rather than a 5.5-inch. The smaller battery also means a thinner body of only 6.9mm compared to 7.5mm on the LeTV Le1s.

OnePlus haven’t given the X a fingerprint scanner, and the 13 mega-pixel main camera has an aperture of F2.2, however the front camera is 8 mega-pixel and the phone can handle either dual SIM cards or micro SD cards of up to 128GB.

Finally the chipset in the OPX is a 32bit Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM, this is last years chip, an oldie but a goodie.

OnePlus X vs LeTV Le 1s: Conclusions

We still have to get both phones in hand to see how they compare but from what we know about each company and their previous phones we are confident that they are both going to be premium contenders.

Which is the best all comes down to what is most important to you. The OnePlus X has the more compact, stylish body and an AMOLED display, plus the very useful addition of micro SD support. The LeTV with only 32GB memory and no SD is a disadvantage, but then again it does have a fingerprint scanner, larger F2.0 aperture and larger battery and doesn’t require an invite to buy.

Speaking of buying these Watch Phones. The OnePlus X will be officially available in Europe and the U.S from $249, while Chinese resellers are already listing the standard version with 3GB RAM for $294.99 (no invite needed). At this time the only way to order a LeTV is from resellers, but pricing for the LeTV Le1S is only $249.99.

It’s a tough decision and I’m having trouble deciding which I would choose. Do you know which you would buy?

Goophone S6 First Impressions

$109.99 can get you a lot of phone these days, and the Goophone S6 presents stonking value on paper. How does it feel in the hand? Find out in our Goophone S6 first impressions.

If you roll back time a few years and limit yourself to just $109.99 there would be plenty of choice but you couldn’t expect so much in terms of hardware, design, build and even software. Times have changed!

The Goophone S6 is a budget phone that looks like it should be priced closer to mid range phones rather than budget devices. On the design and build side we have a slim 8.4mm body (it looks thinner than those figures suggest) a 5-inch 2.5D curved glass display, well proportioned bezels and a rear fingerprint scanner set in to a soft to the touch removable rear panel.

Goophone S6 review

Build quality is pretty good although on my model there does seem to be a slight dent in the chassis on the top edge of my sample phone, and there is a rattle coming from the physical buttons (volume and power) on the right of the device.

Goophone S6 review

Looking around the Goophone S6 you will notice that the phone doesn’t have any hardware navigation buttons and instead uses onscreen controls. This isn’t a complaint (I’m actually happy using either) but I know some users do prefer buttons on the chin.

Goophone S6 review

On the rear is that fingerprint scanner and dual LED flash plus the Sony rear camera. Those LED flash are very bright and seems to have been timed well to bring a better low-light photo rather than just washing the image out. The fingerprint scanner is a nice security touch, but remember this is a budget phone so you are not getting a super fast one-touch model, instead you will need to wake the screen first (either by double tapping the screen or pressing the power button) before the finger print scanner will work.

Goophone S6 review

Removing the rear of the phone uncovers a 2000mAh battery, dual SIM cards, and a SD card slot for 64GB cards.

Goophone S6 review

The rest of the cheap Goophone N4 includes a 64bit Mediatek MT6735 chipset running at 1.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, 1280 x 720 HD display, 2 mega-pixel front camera, and an Android 5 .1 system. The ROM on the Goophone S6 looks stock but isn’t there are gesture controls, quick wake features and some custom icons in there.

Goophone S6 review
Of the Goophone phones I’ve handled this year, the Goophone S6 does feel and look like one of the better models they have produced. It’s a nice simple and classy design, has good hardware at a low-price and the ROM is nice and clean. How will the Goophone S6 after our full review? Keep posted to find out.

Thanks to Pandawill for supplying our Goophone S6 Watch Phones review phone.

Ulefone Paris survives 8 floor drop test, in its box

Ulefone have thrown their latest Battery Ulefone be Touch 2 out of an 8th floor window to prove that the packaging of the phone can protect your device while in transit, we wonder what would happen without the box?

We’ve seen drop tests before, and usually they entail a phone dropped from waist height, shoulder height and head height to see how the two Battery Ulefone be Touch 2 will survive. The video above is more impressive due to the height, 30 meters, but less so as the phone is still in the box.

While the video does show the phone dropping 8 stories and surviving it is really more of a testament to the quality of the Ulefone Paris packaging rather than the strength of the phone itself.

Perhaps after we finish our review we will make a similar video to see how the Paris’ metal frame and Wood Back Cover Oneplus 2 front panel will survive an un-cushioned landing.

Doogee claims it has produced the most smartphones with 2.5D glass

The Galaxy Note 4. Xiaomi Mi Note. OPPO Find 5. Motorola Moto X. Motorola-Google Nexus 6. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. What do all of these smartphones have in common? Doogee says that its own DOOGEE DG750 smartphones provide the answer: 2.5D glass.

2.5D glass is a term that refers to a slight improvement in design with current smartphones. Traditional 2D glass smartphones provide straight edges at the end of display (a "square” shape, if you will), while 3D glass displays have the edge design similar to what you’ve seen in the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+, as well as the upcoming BlackBerry Priv. 2.5D glass sits between both of these designs, with the look of normal DOOGEE IBIZA F2 but adds rounded edges to glass displays.

Doogee says that 2.5D glass designs are used in a number of high-end smartphones such as those named above, but its own collection leads the way in the number of smartphones that feature 2.5D glass. The company has a total of 5 smartphones that all sport the feature: the Doogee Y100 Pro, Y100 Plus, Y100X, F3, and F3 Pro.

What do you think of these Doogee 3.5 inch smartphone? Do you notice the 2.5D glass design? Does it stand out to you? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
